Xavier’s 3rd Campus To House Pg, Science Research Depts | Kolkata News

Kolkata: St Xavier’s College plans to move research-based science departments as well as some post-graduation departments to the third campus under construction in Anandapur, off EM Bypass. The campus will also house a gender studies center and mass communication and multimedia departments.
Announcing this during the 15th convocation and farewell ceremonies at its Park Street campus for the class of 2022, the Reverend Principal Dominic Savio said the new campus is part of his Vision 2025. The college also has a campus at Raghabpur, South 24 Parganas for rural students. This campus has a skills development center and will open a school of gender studies next month.
Speaking about the college’s contribution to the fight against Covid over the past year, Reverend Father Savio mentioned various activities including a vaccination campaign at its Park Street and Raghabpur campuses. More than 10,000 vaccines were administered at the two centers.
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta, Sonali Chakravarti Banerjee, told how the oldest university in modern South Asia had participated in transparent and reputable ranking exercises and had become one of the leading institutions in India. The university was ranked fourth in the National Institute Ranking Framework behind IISc, JNU and BHU. In the QS Asia Rankings 2022, it had ranked first among public universities in India and third among all universities.
Chancellor of Ashoka University Rudrangshu Mukherjee and Reverend Fr Raphael Joseph Hyde were also present at the ceremony where 2,989 graduate students received their degrees.
