Faculty of Education
HKU has been involved in teacher training since 1917 and the Faculty of Education was established in 1984. The Faculty of Education is forward-looking and world leader, ranking fifth globally in education (THE 2021). He has assumed an important role in educational research and vocational training as a leading provider of teacher training programs and has contributed significantly to education policy and development in Hong Kong through his strong expertise in policy analysis and program development. The faculty was also the first in Hong Kong to offer degree programs that train speech-language pathologists and audiologists for the local community. Candidates are invited for appointment as Tenure Track Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor of Special Education (2 positions) in the Faculty of Education (Ref .: 509057), from August 1, 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter, for a fixed term of three years, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration in function before the expiration of the second three-year fixed-term contract. Applicants for the professorship should have strong academic credentials, exceptional academic leadership abilities, extensive experience in conducting rigorous and externally funded field research, and a distinguished record of scholarship. Exceptionally exceptional candidates at the professor / associate professor level may be considered for an indefinite appointment.
Applicants must have (i) a doctorate. diploma in special education, inclusive education, disability studies, educational psychology, school psychology or in a closely related field; (ii) a vocational education diploma; (iii) experience of higher education; and (iv) proven experience or strong potential in research, scholarly publications and competitive external funding. They should demonstrate excellent research expertise on giftedness and / or creativity / disabilities / additional needs (e.g. cognitive and learning needs, social, emotional and behavioral needs, etc.), ability to establish collaborative working relationships with fellow academics, schools and professionals, and skills in online and blended education. Those with excellence in teaching at the university level, experience in teaching students with disabilities, a commitment to pre-service teacher preparation, and knowledge of Chinese educational contexts are preferred.
Appointees will teach at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, provide services to various teacher education programs, and lead and participate in collaborative and interdisciplinary efforts with colleagues from across the University. They will also supervise postgraduate students in research, actively contribute to academic curriculum development, research and knowledge exchange, undertake school internship supervision, and take on service / administrative responsibilities as appropriate. . Senior appointees will also lead collaborative and interdisciplinary research and knowledge exchange initiatives, mentor and nurture the next generation of academics and researchers, and take on senior service / administrative responsibilities.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, payroll tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will result in a termination bonus and a contribution from the University to a pension plan, totaling up to 15% of base salary. Housing allowances will be paid where applicable.
