MARC's Services

Across the United States, public awareness of growing social and economic polarization and sprawling, inefficient land use has increased significantly in recent years. This awareness, and a related new political energy toward regional reform, has been fostered in large part by the detailed analysis of metropolitan social, economic, and land use trends contained within studies conducted by MARC. MARC produces vibrantly colored, easy-to-understand maps created with a unique combination of GIS and graphic design software. Presenting cutting edge demographic research through the striking spatial display of data, MARC’s research illustrates intricate development patterns, urban stresses, and land use/growth trends. By revealing common patterns of distress in a region, MARC’s studies have become significant tools for building coalitions to enact reforms in regions throughout the country.

Since 1995, MARC has conducted over 23 regional studies and 4 statewide studies. For a single regional project, MARC examines socioeconomic separation and sprawl in the region, including data mapping and analysis. For a statewide study, MARC looks at several (3-8) metropolitan regions in a single state and then compares regional trends in the context of current state policies and politics. To accompany each study, MARC designs and produces a highly attractive report complete with photos, tables, maps, analysis and recommendations for use as a public education and outreach tool.
