DRDO-IIT Delhi successfully demonstrated quantum communication between Prayagraj, Vindhyachal

A joint team of scientists from Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Delhi, demonstrated the Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) link between Prayagraj and Vindhyachal, Uttar Pradesh, a distance of more than 100 kilometers, informed the DRDO DRDo also said that this is the first time in the country that QKD has been successfully demonstrated.

QKD, also called quantum cryptography, is a mechanism for developing secure communication. It provides a way to distribute and share secret keys needed by cryptographic protocols. DRDO also said it has achieved this milestone with commercial-grade fiber already available in the field. Building on this success, the country demonstrated indigenous secure key transfer technology to initiate the hierarchy of military-grade communications security keys. “Performance parameters were measured and found to be repeatedly within reported international standards at key dimmed frequencies up to 10 kHz,” DRDO said.
